As of Fall 2021 (August 2021), the system has moved to incorporating the "new" syllabus templates directly into our Canvas shells. Consequently, we will discontinue housing the Syllabus Templates on this site. However, the Course Outlines will still be kept up to date and maintained at this site and location. Nota Bene: It is important to note this fact since the Course Outlines will contain the current and up-to-date textbook information for our courses.

Email Standards

Departmental Standard 1: Intradepartmental Email Communication

For intradepartmental communications, during the work week (Monday through Friday), the general expectations are that faculty check their emails with a daily frequency and respond to emails within 48 hours.
Nota Bene: When dealing with time-sensitive issues related to intradepartmental matters, it is expected that faculty reply within 24 hours . Please note that this standard is couched as a general proviso; when a more timely reply is needed, the Associate Chair, Chair or Dean may require may require a more immediate response in certain matters.

Departmental Standard 2: Email Communication: Face-to-face Instruction

General expectations are that faculty routinely check their emails with a frequency no less than Monday, Wednesday and Friday AND respond to emails within 48 hours.

Departmental Standard 3: Email Communication: Online Instruction

It is expected that instructors respond to distance learning student inquiries within 48 hours.
Nota Bene: There is an important note to make for online courses and email communication between students over the weekends. If an instructor adopts a general “no email response,” then the instructor should not administer exams where the due date occurs over a weekend. If an instructor has an exam that is due over the weekend, then it is expected that he/she is available via email to address any questions that may arise as a result of testing. Issues that arise from unanswered email as result of a weekend exam due date should be handled by the faculty member and not the Associate Chair, Chair, or Dean.
